George Jude Anton, 61 of Deerfield Beach, Fl. passed Tuesday, January 4, 2011. Mr. Anton came to Deerfield Beach from Cleveland, Ohio. George was dedicated employee of the Kraeer Funeral Homes since 1988. He is survived by his partner William Kilbane, his sister Mary Lou (Raymond) Lazor, his brothers Thomas (Jackie) Anton and Michael Anton.
Nancy Ann Varn Bevis, 82, died June 25, 2011. She was the mother of Buddy Bevis of Funeral Services Inc. Survivors include two sons, William H. Bevis, Jr. (Mary) and Hugh Thomas Bevis (Sharon); her daughter, Irma M. Bevis Camp (Richard); and grandchildren, William Hinson Bevis, III, Laura Sidney Bevis, Elizabeth Rose Bevis, Amy Ann Bevis, Thomas Hugh Bevis, Nancy Margaret Camp, Cole Engram Camp and Robert Conley Camp. Also surviving are two sisters, Mary Strain Varn Fort and Fidelia Varn Jahna.
William “Bill” Bevis, 90, died December 31, 2010. He was the father of Buddy Bevis of Funeral Services Inc. He was the starting fullback and linebacker at Tennessee and earned his nickname for playing all 60 minutes of the game. He played in the 1945 Rose Bowl. He had previously served two terms in the Legislature, representing Fort Meade in Polk County, and retired from public service after a stint on the Florida Crimes Compensation Commission. He also owned and operated the Fort Meade Motel and Fort Meade Ford, and served as the city's mayor before running for office in the state House of Representatives. Bevis, who is survived by two sons, a daughter and eight grandchildren, is the great uncle of Steve Southerland, R-Panama City.
Isabella Coney, 86 died June 26, 2011. She is the Mother-In-Law of Lisa Lyons Coney, FCCFA Board Member. She is survived by three sons; Richard Coney & his wife, Gail of Narrowsburg, Ronald Coney & his wife, Lisa of Winter Park, FL and Robert Coney & his wife Tamara of Neversink; a daughter: June Conklin & her husband Tom of Monticello; twelve grandchildren: Richard, Michael (Nerrisa), Jason (Katie), Brian, Karyn (Jermaine), Stacy (Ron), Brittany, Dana (Mark), Erin, Tim, Sarah and Jackson; seventeen great grandchildren: Adam, Devon, Daniel, Joey, Russell, Amber, Alyssa, Ashley, Tiffany, Jessica, Courtney, Zoie, Lucas, Caden, Rhys, Shota and Ellablue; one great great granddaughter: Arianna; four brothers: Leon, Earl, Harry and Carl; five sisters: Carol, Arlene, Kathy, Lena and Tessie; and many nieces and nephews.
Mark Curry, Jr., 84 died on May 16, 2011. He was the founder of Curry’s Funeral Home. He is survived by his son Mark Curry, III, daughters Frances “Cissy” Ryan and Barbara Gelsomino, with her husband Mark. He is also survived by his grandchildren Elizabeth, Brock, Alexandria and James, along with his sister Frances Vaughn and numerous nieces and nephews. Mark also leaves loving step-children Charles Crispin and Cathy Keller.

Robert Arthur Fisk, 91, died on November 19, 2010. He was the former proprietor of Fisk Funeral Home, historian for the city of St. Cloud and a long time resident. Mr. Fisk was past president and life member of the Florida Funeral Directors Association, past president of the Central Florida Funeral Directors Association and past president of the St. Clouds Lions Club. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during WWII.

Robert is survived by his loving wife Alma G. of 64 years; daughter, Sue Klaasen and husband James of Malabar, FL., son, William A. Fisk and his wife Donna of Hendersonville, NC.; four grandchildren: Matthew D. Fisk and his wife Debbie, Nicole N. Fisk, Carolyn S. Klaasen and Robert J. Klaasen; and one great-grandson, Brian Vallone.

James Gordon, died on February 15, 2011 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Jim ran the family business, Gordon Funeral Home which was founded in 1938. In 1989, Gordon Funeral Home and Riverside Chapel joined forces and became Riverside Gordon Memorial Chapels. Jim was also well known in South Florida's Jewish Community. Jim is survived by his wife Henrietta, his daughter Lynn, and his son David (Marci). In 1995, he lost his oldest son Craig who he worked alongside for many years.
Fred Jackson Grady, age 88 died May 1, 2011. He owned and operated Robarts-Grady Funeral Home, (currently Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home) Arcadia, FL. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Grady, Arcadia, Fl., a son Frederick John (Lisa) Grady, Tampa, FL, three grandchildren; Kacy Skylar Grady, Boulder, CO, John Keaton Grady and Heath Frederick Grady both of Tampa, FL.
Patrick R. Hagen, 48 of Tamarac, Florida passed away Friday, November 26, 2010. Patrick was born August 19, 1962 in Dearborn, Michigan to Robert and Mickey Hagen. Patrick was the former cemetery superintendent at Forest Lawn North in Pompano Beach and currently held the position of cemetery superintendent with Carriage Funeral Services at Lauderdale Memorial Park in Fort Lauderdale. Patrick is survived by his mother Mickey Hagen; brothers Daniel (Jennifer) Hagen and Michael (Karen) Hagen. Patrick was laid to rest in the garden he helped create, The Fountains Cremation Garden at Lauderdale Memorial Park.
Verdual W. Hamlin Jr. 80, of Eustis, passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2010. He moved to Eustis in 1957 and became a partner in Zeller, Kennedy & Hamlin Funeral Home, he was a co-founder of Hamlin & Hilbish Funeral Directors of Eustis and Steverson, Hamlin & Hilbish Funerals and Cremations in Tavares. Mr. Hamlin is survived by his wife Patti, his children, Susan Hamlin (Jorge) Salazar of Eustis, William D. “Billy” (Teri) Hamlin of Oakland, Florida, step daughters, Lisa Lacy of Plano, Texas and Carolyn (Andrew) Yates of Apex, North Carolina, his grandchildren, Sabrina Krueger, Jorge Salazar, Jessica Salazar, William Tyler Hamlin, Patrick Todd Lacy, Joshua P. Hamlin, Nathan Yates, Megan E. Hamlin, and Lindsay Yates, great granddaughter, Emma Kruger and his business partners Art & Carol Hilbish.
Gordon Hardage, 76, died on May 26, 2011. He was the son of Hugh Hardage Sr. and Winifred D. Hardage, co-founders of Hardage & Williams Funeral Homes. Survivors include his close friend and companion, Verna Darby; two sons and their families, Gordon Hardage, Jr., his wife Alicia, and their daughter Regan; Michael Allen Hardage, his wife Cherie, and Michael’s daughter, Elizabeth Ann; and one daughter, Courtney Elizabeth Hardage; four sisters: Mary Phillips of Arlington, Texas, and Winifred Stewart, Derry Jo [Richard]Taylor, and Margarette Jeanne Chambliss of Jacksonville, along with 15 nieces and nephews. Survivors also include one stepson, Clif Vigal (Sheila); three stepdaughters, Barbara (David) Shutt, Katherine (James III) Lylerly and Pamela (Richard) Copeland, and their children.
Jeffrey Frank “Jeff” Harvey, 61 died on November 15, 2010 at Hope Hospice in Fort Myers, Florida. Jeff for the past 32 years was the shop manager and crematory operatory at Fort Myers Vault Service and Fort Myers Crematory. Jeff is survived by his sister, Linda Pearson and a nephew.
David J. Hirt, 64, died March 1, 2011. He was the former President and CEO of Batesville Casket Company. He is survived by his wife, Lynn; three children, Natalie Maret, Bart D. Hirt, and Tracey Hirt; and four grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, Cleopha Hirt; two brothers, Dennis and Dick Hirt; and three sisters, Darlene and Donna Hirt and Doris McKee.
John A. Horner, 62 of Coconut Creek, FL formerly of Melbourne, FL and Burlington, NJ passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2010. John is the father of Kimberly Weis, Senior Event Director for SCI of Florida, Broward Market and father-in-law to Jonathan Weis, FCCFA member. John was born November 17, 1947 in Mount Holly, NJ. John is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Lenore Horner; daughter Kimberly (Jonathan) Weis; son John Horner Jr.; grandchildren Brad, Marlee, Matt, and Elle.
Lyn Hunter, 69 died on September 7, 2010. She was the wife of the late Fred Hunter, owners of Fred Hunter Funeral Homes. She is survived by her two sons Rick (Dede) and Brad (Stacey) and six grandchildren Elisabeth, Ben,Michael, Luke, Abby, and Levi, and by her sisters Lynn Schwartz and Dawn.
Walter Kersey, 88, died on January 8, 2011. He co-founded Kersey Funeral Home on Lake Stella. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the 304th Bombing 15th Air Force in Italy and was a graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary in Nashville, TN. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Katherine Kersey, and a brother, William Kersey. Survivors include 2 sons, James "Jim" W. (Miriam) Kersey of Orlando and David (Cindy) Kersey of Auburndale; daughter, Mary (Chuck) Wright of Auburndale; granddaughter, Christy (Jason) Ambrose of Shanghai, China; 5 grandsons, David (Lori) Wright of San Francisco, Eric (Ginny) Kersey of Auburndale, Christopher Kersey of Tallahassee, Alexander Kersey and Graham Kersey, both of Orlando; 3 great grandchildren, Greyson Kersey, Michael Wright and Abigail Ambrose.
Amelia Avant Lithgow, 92, died March 9, 2011. Mother of Donn Lithgow, FCCFA member. She is survived by sons Dal and Donn Lithgow, Grandson David Lithgow, two Step-Granddaughters, and three Great Step Grandsons.
Edgar Lohman, died March 10, 2011. He enlisted in the US Navy as a young man, and enjoyed more than 37 years of active duty and military reserve service including three WestPack cruises to Vietnam. Among his decorations, he earned multiple bronze stars. He was instrumental in the creation of “Vero Beach Veterans Memorial Island Sanctuary” which commemorates all veterans from the Vero Beach area who died in combat while defending our country. He also spearheaded a bronze memorial located in the Vero Beach Airport which lists and recognizes more than 100 men who were killed while participating in Naval training missions while stationed there.

He is survived by his son Lowell (Nancy) and Victor (Mary) both of Ormond Beach, FL, son Daryl (Christine) of Tampa, FL; his 7 grandchildren, Brian (Jennifer), Ty (Tovah), Chris (Maria), Lauren and Michael Lohman, and Breyli and Maigen Pardee, his 5 great grandchildren Taylor, Jordan, Jacob, Tristen, and Caleb Lohman, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Janvier (Jan) M. Lucas, 49 died on August 14, 2010. She is survived by her husband, Dana R. Lucas, of Gainesville, FL, her daughters, Kathryn M. Upham and her husband Michael of Largo, FL, and Victoria (Vicki) E. Lucas of Gainesville, FL. Her sister, Marie (Mitzi) Meyers Herndon and her husband Ken, of Deerfield Beach, FL
W. George McFall, 70, died January 6, 2011 in Gainesville, FL. Mr. McFall was sales representative for Church & Chapel Metal Arts for 28 years, was a member of the Independent Funeral Directors of Florida, Florida Funeral Directors Association, the Georgia Funeral Directors Association, I.F.D.G. & the Past Presidents Club. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Merleen McFall; son, Chris McFall and his wife, Lara; a grandson Aidan; a sister, Kay McFall; brother, Walter McFall.
Ron W. Morrison, 68, died June 9, 2011. He was a long time member of FFDA (and FCCFA). He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sharon, his two sons, Darryl (Montse) and Devin (Heather), and four granddaughters, Gabriela, Catalina, Kierlan, and Finley.
Harry Mueller, Jr., 92 died on November 27, 2010. Father of FCCFA board member, Dick Mueller. Harry served in the Army during WWII. He was a member of his local Kiwanis Club, American Cemetery Association and Southern Cemetery Association. He is survived by his three sons, Harry W. “Terry” Mueller III (Susan), Thomas Mueller (Donna) and Richard “Dick” Mueller (Debbie). He also has numerous grand and great-grand children.
David Michael Mull, 63, of Gulf Breeze, FL died on October 26, 2010. Mr. Mull was born in Sylacauga, AL on April 1, 1947; David was a long time Batesville Casket Representative in Alabama and the Panhandle of Florida.
L. Curry Raley, age 74, died April 17, 2011 in Stuart, FL. He was the owner of Curry Raley Funeral Home. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #17, Order of Eastern Star # 42, BPOE Lodge of Wauchula and Kiwanis Club of Wauchula. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Karen A. Raley of Stuart, FL; five daughters; Renee R. Gill of Burney, CA, Ralene (H.E. “Binky” Graham, Jr. of Wauchula, FL., Michele L. McCandless of Wauchula, FL, Diane L. (Derren) Bryan of Bowling Green, FL., and Beth (Ed) Fredere of Lithia, FL; two sons Lee Curry Raley of Modesto, CA and Edward K. Labud of Punta Gorda, FL.; one brother Ernest (Larell) Raley of Marianna, FL.; ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert E. Steinkamp, 65, died on December 27, 2010. Graduate of Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science ‘65, becoming a licensed Funeral Director. He worked within funeral service for many years, and was the founder of Atlantic Ambulance, N. Broward's first private ambulance service. Through the years, he became more active in his faith, and along with his wife founded Rejoice Marriage Ministries. He is survived by his loving wife Charlyne, the devoted father of Tim (Patti), Tom (Kathleen), & Lori (Scott) Lassen, proud grandpa of Allyson, Kyle, Kayla, Madison, Ryan, Samantha, Ashley; and dear brother of Donna (Bob) Marriott.
James T. “Jim” Stephens, 76, died on February 24, 2011. He was Past President of FCFCA and a Board Member of FCCFA. He was a member of ICCFA (International Cemetery, Cremation, and Funeral Association) and a founding member of PCCA (Pinellas County Cemetery Association). Jim was also a State of Florida Court Appointed Receiver and managed cemeteries, funeral homes and crematories in Tampa, Tallahassee, Daytona Beach and Jacksonville. Jim worked hard to establish a Funeral Service Program at FSCJ (Florida Community College at Jacksonville) and for the past six years, served as an associate with Thomas Pierce & Associates Succession Planners of Gainesville, FL. Jim was a Korean War Veteran serving with the U. S. Army. Survivors include his wife, Ellen S. Stephens; a step son, Jack Fleeger (Loren); grandchildren, Jarrod, Jackson, Dawson and Faith Fleeger; sisters in law, Peggy Hatfield and Frankie Riner; brothers in law, Larry Strange and Gerald Strange.
Corrine D. (Meola) Stiles, 81 of Worcester died at St. Vincent's Hospital in Worcester on October 25, 2010. She was the wife of the late Walter J. Stiles, she is survived by her ten children, Cheryl M. Bleau of NH, Walter J. Stiles and his wife Jean of GA., Maryann L. Maguire of N. Adams, Kevin W. Stiles and his wife Elizabeth of Holden, Doreen H. Lebel and her husband Henry of Webtser, Philip G. Stiles and his wife Paula of Leicester, Christine J. Biggins and her husband Robert (NFDA Past President) of Hanson, Debra J. Maguire and her partner Stephen Saltzman of NJ, Jacqueline S. French of VT and Dennis B. Stiles and his wife Deirdre of GA. She was the sister of Rudolph W. Karin and his wife Patricia of PA and the late Philip Meola and Margeurite Rabidou. Also surviving are her sister-in-law Katherine Meola of FL, 24 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Doug Stowell, 67, died June 19, 2011. He was the former FFDA General Counsel. Doug began his career after law school as staff attorney for the Senate Rules Committee. He served on Governor Askew’s staff for several years and then as Secretary of the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation. After leaving state government, in his 30 years in private practice Doug represented the Florida Funeral Directors and wrote the Pre-Need Law that became the standard for most of the Nation.

He is survived by his wife, Nan, and by three children, Cindy Compton (Jamey), Will Oven (Samantha) and Leanne Price, all of Tallahassee. He is also survived by three granddaughters, Emily Compton, Chandler Oven and Gwendolyn Oven, his mother-in-law Gwen Morrow, and sisters-in-law Lynn Morrow and Gwenn Thomas (Glenn), all of Tallahassee. In addition, he is survived by several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Nate Stowell.

Michael John Szymczak, 57 died on March 30, 2011. He worked at Lohman Funeral Homes. He dedicated his life to the service of others as a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, JoAnn Szymczak, Ormond Beach, his mother, Anne Szymczak, Doylestown, PA, formerly of Philadelphia, daughters, Michelle Szymczak (David Ditro), Philadelphia and Maureen (Pete) Criscuolo, Bucks County, PA, sister, JoAnne (Robert) Ruff, Bucks County, PA, eight grandchildren, Julianna, Melanie, Emily, Nicolette, David, Isabelle, Anthony, and Dominic, and six nieces and nephews, Melissa, Jessica, Jeffrey, Kevin, Dennis, and Ryan, his sister-in-law, Christine Szymczak, Bucks County, PA, brother-in-law, Michael (Vanessa) McBride, Hollywood.
Marjorie J. Rhoads Wappner, 94, mother of NFDA Immediate Past President, Bill Wappner, died on November 6, 2010 at Mansfield Memorial Homes. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Thomas and Karen Wappner and William and Esther Wappner, all of Mansfield; four grandsons: Rick, Robb, Andrew, and Ross Wappner; two granddaughters and one grandson-in-law: Amy and Jason Bove and Laura Wappner; three great-grandchildren: Riley, Reese, and Miles Wappner; a fourth great-grandchild expected in December; three sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Richard L. Wappner in 1986 and two sisters, Mrs. Donald (Alice) Steele and Mrs. Jacque (Mary) Edwards.
Sumner James "Jim" Waring, Jr., 74, died October 6, 2010. He was a 4th generation Funeral Service Professional for over 50 years and Chairman of Affiliated Family Funeral Service. He joined his family's funeral home in 1958 and led the Waring firm which expanded their business to 19 funeral homes throughout Eastern Massachusetts. In 1996 the firm joined Service Corporation International and the Dignity Memorial network.

Jim was Past President of the National Funeral Directors Association, the Massachusetts Funeral Directors Association, a founding member and Vice President of the International Funeral Directors Association and past Chairman of the Massachusetts State Board of Embalming and Funeral Directing. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Elizabeth "Liz" Waring. His son, Sumner J. "Jay" Waring, III, (Kristin), daughter Christine E. Waring, sister Sally Buffinton (Thomas), 3 granddaughters Abigail, Elizabeth and Frances Waring, Mother-in-law: Muriel Westgate Emerson, several nieces and nephews.

William A. "Bill" Wolfe, 79 died on May 9, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Rollo Wolfe of Milton; brother, L.D. "Doug" (Pat) Wolfe, Jr. of Pace, brother in law, Rodney Rollo of Milton; and many nieces and nephews.
