On
April 14th and 15th, FFDA board representatives and
members visited the capitol in Tallahassee for the Annual
FFDA Legislative Day. The event was kicked off with
a reception and dinner at the Governors Club downtown
where Representatives Roberson, Kelly and Horner visited
the group and welcomed everyone to the State’s
Capitol.
On
Wednesday, the FFDA Legislative Day participants had
breakfast at Georgia McKeown’s office and met
with CFO Alex Sink and Doug Shropshire, Director of
the Division of Funeral, Cemetery and Consumer Services.
FFDA members discussed the importance of maintaining
the highest standards for licensees in the death-care
profession to ensure cases such as the Morning Glory
situation do not occur. FFDA members also discussed
the state of the Division and the significance of not
only having inspectors out in full force making sure
funeral homes, crematories and cemeteries are properly
following state regulations but also having the legal
staff available to prosecute and follow through with
such cases found by the inspectors.
After
the meeting with CFO Alex Sink and FCCS Division Doug
Shropshire, FFDA members met with Senate President Jeff
Atwater, were introduced on the House floor by Representative
Roberson, met with their individual Legislators and
ended the event with lunch at Harry’s Seafood
Bar and Grill at Kelman Plaza. We hope everyone will
join us for next year’s Legislative Day! |
